This wedding dress combines pure white crepe with a lace overlay for a soft, textured finish. It has a fitted mermaid silhouette, shaped closely through the bodice, waist and hips before flaring below the knee to a floor-length hem. Princess seams shape the bodice around a V-neckline, while fitted long sleeves keep the overall line clean and simple.

Why it works

The princess-seam bodice provides close shaping without interrupting the clean front of the dress, while the natural waist defines the transition into the fitted skirt. Long sleeves balance the open V-neckline, and the flare below the knee gives the mermaid silhouette its shape while allowing more room through the lower skirt. The lace overlay adds detail to an otherwise simple design without changing its streamlined silhouette.

Notes for your dressmaker

Use the crepe as the supporting layer and position the lace overlay carefully so that the motifs remain balanced across the bodice and major seams. Allow for the behaviour of both fabrics when shaping and pressing the princess seams, particularly through the bust and hips. Reinforce and stabilise the V-neckline so that it lies flat without stretching or gaping. Check the fitted sleeves at the bicep and elbow with the arm both straight and bent, and confirm that the fitted skirt allows comfortable standing, sitting and walking before completing the hem. Finish the lace at the hem according to its edge or motif placement rather than cutting through prominent motifs where possible. Use a centred back invisible zip with a hook and eye at the top, extending far enough below the hip to allow the dress to be put on comfortably. Fit the dress before the final hem and finishing work are completed.
